Dear All,
So I am back from my quick trip to Paris, with lots of treats to share with all of you! So be on the lookout!! Until then, feast your eyes on these bad boys that have GPS capabilities….while this might seem inappropriate, I can’t help but say that these would be the perfect shoe for a heavy night out….just in case you happened to forget your way home! Nevertheless, it’s nice idea that was created for exhibition (of which has passed) by Dominic Wilcox in conjunction with Mr. Nicholas Cooper of Stamp Shoes and Becky Stewart of Codasign. Aside from being a piece created for show, I must say that taking all of the holes away, I quite fancy the shoe itself, particularly the shade of blue with all of those red accents. Anyway, I am quite swamped as you can imagine after two days away and therefore can’t write too much more but wanted to share with all of you a bit of creativity in the shoe world!! I will get back to everyone’s emails and comments, so please bare with me.
Full story on the creation of these with more pictures, HERE. Photos Courtesy of Mr. Dominic Wilcox
All the best,
Justin, “The Shoe Snob”
What I particularly like in these shoes, is that although they have an high tech and gadgetty character, all that is still built in in a stylish and wellcrafted and beautiful shoe.
I doff my cap to the makers of this!
Just checked out “Stamp Shoes”. All the magic words…”bespoke”…”hand-lasted”…and a personal, artisan business. For about 1800 including lasting fee and trees.
Then the words “…using a modern, cemented construction”. Glued shoes for 1800? Stick it up your arse.
🙂
Paul Van Der Hart – Definitely!
Alex B – you are too funny….I definitely look forward to the day that you come to London and we meet in person!

I don’t see that cemented construction is something to look down upon. Welding techniques haven’t changed in centuries, while glue technology has advanced considerably.
The association of welting with bespoke shoes is like that of mechanical movements with high end watches. Cheap watches are always quartz, so people expect a high end watches to be mechanical. But a good quartz watch will be more accurate, and last longer with less maintenance, than even the best mechanical watch.
Similarly cheap shoes are always glued, so people expect a high end shoe to be welted. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make a top-quality cemented shoes. The main objection to cemented shoes is that they are difficult to resole and cannot be refurbished – but you’ll see from stamp shoes website that they offer both.
Plus once you have the last, additional pairs are 1100 – less than half most bespoke makers.
(disclosure: I am not affiliated with stamp shoes but I am a customer of theirs.)
Anon – Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the matter!
