Here is the follow up to my first post, What I’ve Learned – Shoe’s Version, and while this post is a bit different than your usual shoe stuff, I thought that some of you might be interested to read the following.
Existence is a constant state of learning. At least it should be because if we are not learning something daily, we are not really living. Life is our personal journey in which experience constantly teaches us how to further maneuver through that journey. As we age, we recall previous experiences that thus helps us face the daily challenges, the beautiful experiences and ultimately our constant state of thought. I am yet by no means wise as I still have a lot to learn and still let my ego often control my actions, but thought that I would share my experiences and what I have learned from them for those that might be interested in more than just shoes, like I always was when reading Esquire magazine.
So here goes
- Anyone can be anything they want in life. It is often our own disbelief in our abilities that we do not become who we wanted as we never truly believed we could be that. Stop doubting, start believing.
- It’s funny how you grow up one day, look back and think, ‘Gosh, my parents were really right and knew what they were talking about.’ Adolescence is an interesting time period.
- The Devil is in the Detail. The details matter in life and often separate the good from the great. Pay attention to the details in life, they will take you far!
- Having 5 real friends and 0 acquaintances is far better than 1000 acquaintances and 0 friends. Being ‘known’ by many is overrated. Being cherished by few is far more rewarding.
- No matter what you think now, you will look back and laugh at your style when you were younger.
- At the end of the day, all that really matters in this life is that we have love in some manner or form. Without love, life is pretty much pointless. Love conquers all.
- I love shoes. But they are just shoes. Getting hung up on material things is a waste of time. Enjoy them, but don’t let them run your emotions or control your life.
- Despite my career choice, I am not a fan of social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter Snapchat etc). Real interactions trump all. There is nothing more sad than a group of people all together, all on their phones and not interacting with each other.
- There are not many things much more satisfying than a cold beer on a hot day.
- Living in another country and experiencing another culture is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. Do your best to accomplish that.
- The sound of your kids’ laughter is the greatest thing you will ever hear
- Trying to save time in your daily commute by rushing or being impatient will only create you stress and thus cut your life short. Don’t sacrifice your life for your commute. Slow down and relax
- Music is my first love. I never go anywhere without my headphones. I need music to survive.
- Don’t try and figure out the opposite sex. Just accept, love and respect their differences. Your life will be much happier doing so.
- A good Colombian empanada is the greatest food ever invented. The problem is finding good ones outside of Colombia or of a Colombian’s household.
- Manners are extremely important and should never be forgotten. That includes giving up your seat for someone in more need than you on public transportation. It’s incredible how many people don’t do this, particularly men.
- Communication is the key to any relationship, not just with your partner, with ANY.
- A well-polished shoe will make any outfit look better. Keep your shoes in order.
- If there are two things in your house you should not go cheap on, it is a good bed and a good couch. Relaxing and sleeping comfortably is very important after a hard day’s work.
- Be grateful. If you are reading this, you can see. And that is something to be grateful for.
Thanks for reading. I hope that all of you at least got one thing out of this that helps you in your journey
Justin,
I just wanted to say this is one of my favorite posts here. There are so many little things to cherish in life and 1) was perfect to start with. Just do it. I got my inspiration to start a blog and now I am opening my shoe store. All because of that post about the foundation and 5 year plan of your brand and Jesper’s blog.
Thank you very much for sharing this and have a good day. I will disagree about 9) though, I don’t drink alcohol!
Best,
Kostas
Thank you so much for the kind words and am super happy that you found inspiration from my site. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure. Thank you for reading!
