Filipino shoemaker, Sapatero, has introduced a new style of jodhpur with a recent custom boot he made for one of his clients. I call it: The Balmoral Jodhpur. While most things are not necessarily 100% original, I cannot recollect seeing something like this in my past. Albeit my head is like a dictionary of shoes, sometimes you often forget words in the height of the moment, like I might forget a style I stumbled upon 12 years ago at 2am doing late-night research to build The Shoe Snob Blog. Nonetheless, it is unique and it is new in 2024!
Sapatero shoemaker continues to quietly impress with his work. He doesn’t often get the attention on the social media sphere that I feel he deserves. I am therefore always happy to support the cool, new stuff that I see him producing. Sapatero claims this balmoral jodhpur was quite the project but was pleased that his customer challenged him to make it. That is what I like about him: his willingness to accept projects that put his skills to the test. That is how we get better and he has done so since his first creations around the same time I launched my own brand.
The balmoral jodhpurs were made from cordovan and alligator with a very intricate buckle on the strap. I am sure this buckle was sourced especially for this project. A true one-of-one adornment. What intrigued me most was the fact that it was built from the base of a balmoral boot. I love the balmoral design in general and love to see it incorporated in models that are not oxfords.
Now imagine this balmoral jodhpur with a medallion and a slightly shorter heel. Then add a contrasting suede material on the shaft and you have the kind of boot I would commission. That is why I love Made to Order. Your imagination becomes your only limit. Well done to Sapatero for this one!
