The Remote Bespoke service in the shoe industry is a relatively new phenomenon that recently became ever more popular due to global issues we faced in 2020-2022.
Here we take a look at the pair of Bespoke Boots I commissioned with Italian bespoke shoemaker, Riccardo Carlino of Calzoleria Carlino. Riccardo approached me about 1.5 years ago wanting to offer me a pair of shoes/boots in order to test out his new Remote Bespoke Service.
While I do not normally wear the shoes people send me I thought this would be a good opportunity to make a completely different model to anything I would ever design in my own brand and therefore justify wearing it.
(Note: the remote bespoke process took so long mainly because of me taking forever to get him the measurements and actually filming this video).
So, I chose this rugged grain leather derby boot with 360 degree Norwegian welt stitch on a leather/commando sole. My intention was for something rugged yet elegant for Winter. And a boot that I could wear with thicker socks.
Overall the remote bespoke experience was great. The boots are super solid and well made. A touch generous even with a semi thick sock but its okay as it allows me to wear my thickest pairs which I like to have the allowance for.
The Remote Bespoke Service is great for someone who wants to customize their shoes and get something made for specifically for their measurements and style without having to travel for it.
