The new Septieme Largeur Nicodème in Chocolate Grain with a Dainite sole very much follows the on-trend industry movement to ruggedize the loafer. And a smart one, as people these days really just want to wear loafers. All year round. Even in Winter where I, too, often sell more loafers than boots. Imagine that. Therefore, making the loafer appeal to the boot nature only seems like smart business. Hence, the new offering!

While the Nicodème is currently offered in three calfskin colorways, on leather soles, unfortunately, the cool new rugged version only comes in this deep Chocolate calf. As I get drawn to black more and more, I was hoping to see that colorway on offer, too, but maybe that is coming later. A nice cognac would also be nice. Knowing Septieme Largeur, I am sure that more will follow.

As it is customary for Parisians to add rubber bottoms to their leather soles anyway, it makes complete sense to help them out by just adding a Dainite sole from the get-go and saving them on cobbler fees. Plus, those cobblestone streets can still do damage to your toes, even with toe taps. But a solid rubber sole, like Dainite, surely helps to prolong the life of your shoes while being a foot-commuting Parisian, or any other street-walking commuter, for that matter!

I can only imagine that the new Nicodème will be a strong contender for Septieme Largeur. A classic round last and pattern, elegant yet robust, is a no-brainer for anyone looking for a solid pair of day-to-day loafers. Let’s just hope they expand on the color choices. I am sure they will. Maybe even a nice brown suede. My personal favorite!
