In light of the casualization of all things sartorial, Septieme Largeur wanted to create a ‘dress Belgian loafer’ that could be worn with formal attire but also day-to-day. That is not to say that Septieme Largeur is trying to be more casual but rather appeal to the ideology of being more ‘relaxed’ which is a huge idea right now. Le Ravel, their new dress Belgian loafer, is their answer to being comfortable while maintaining elegance and formality.
Belgian loafers are very popular right now with the sartorial crowd. It is the Pitti choice and menswear snobs alike donning the Belgian as the new Holy Grail of loafers. It makes sense to not only ride this wave but do so while differentiating it. I have mentioned before that I wanted to have my run at making a dress Belgian loafer, but sadly I never got around to it. Oh well! I am happy that my friends at Septieme Largeur took the leap. I think this idea is great for those, who like me, prefer a proper sole on a pair of shoes.
Don’t assume that this new dress Belgian loafer is strictly for Black Tie though. Providing it is well polished, it can be worn with other outfits. For a more British look, you can wear it with a navy suit. For a casually chic Parisian look, pair it with jeans/chinos and a relaxed blazer. A good loafer, after all, is meant to be versatile. And Le Ravel is no exception.
It will be curious to see if Septieme Largeur makes Le Ravel in other colorways. A nice two-tone combination would not go amiss!
