I had a nice, quick visit with my good friend Norman Vilalta the other day as he was showcasing at Leffot of NYC. Each time I see his collection, I am more and more impressed with not only the quality, but the colors, the designs, and the overall amazing beauty they have. And I tell you that these photos do not do them justice at all.
I love Norman’s style as truth be told, it is similar to my own. But even more so, as we both trained with Stefano Bemer, I can see that we both took inspiration from the late, great shoemaker that will forever be known as one of Italy’s finest. But the beauty is that Norman has his own unique details that differentiate himself from myself and the rest. For example, we both love the alpine hiking boot, but his and mine are completely different. His Decon Chelsea is an instant classic and uniquely his. The use of a lot of colors and two toned shoes. All things that Stefano did. And it’s not copying as we all gain inspiration from somewhere and Stefano’s designs had a lot to give.
But Norman’s are uniquely his own. And that why I respect him and the fact that we are good friends. Because he is real and so are his shoes!
