The more that I spend time here in England and the more this crappy weather prevails, the more I find myself wearing black and blue, together. Two to three years ago, I would have condemned this, but as the weather here is so unpredictable (literally being able to see 4 seasons within 10 minutes time), I constantly fear getting caught in a torrential downpour and ruining a pair of non-black shoes. Therefore, when I see rain on the forecast (which is constant these days), I reach for my trusty Miro loafers by Septieme Largeur. They are good looking, they go with everything (almost) and are comfortable…what more can I ask for, really? In all honesty, I would prefer it is brown suede, but when could I wear it? Never! But as time goes on, and my wildness tones down, I find myself appreciating more and more the pairing of these two colors, so long as somewhere in the outfit I have something that does not make me look so monotone…..like my socks. Gosh, I am such a hypocrite, aren’t I??? Oh well, whatever!

Hey Justin,
It’s a tough one to get right I think, but many people wear black shoes with blue suits, so why not black loafers with jeans?
What I’m really liking, though, are some of these combinations of black and blue shoes: the Miro loafers in a blue/black patina that I think you had elswhere, the Crocket and Jones saddles with blue suede, some nice black brogues with blue suede I saw from Grenson the other day…and a hundred more.
Maybe you should have gone for a custom patina with your Miro loafers – next time?! For now, black can be dull, but it’s versatile and not dull at all if you use it with imagination. Nice socks, by the way!
Alex
Justin,I really like the pattern of Trousers (Unique & Subtle)…the Socks are Epic…….
Not sure I wouldve worn a suit jacket with those trousers. An odd jacket fits better.
PS
Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona is worth a visit
Hi, How do you find the construction of Septieme Largeur’s shoes? Which shoemaker in Northampton would you compare with it quality wise? Thanks for your reply.
Justin! Just curious. Do you hve a shop i can visit? Or can i only find you at gieves and hawkes? Thanks!
Alex – Thanks for the input Alex! Glad that you caught the socks…that was the fun bit to the outfit! The next Miro I would get would probably be a patina one…but don’t know when that would be.
Gentleman90 – Thanks you sir!
AFJ – I like to switch it up, but I understand where you are coming from….when i do go to Barcelona, I will have to check it out, thanks for the tip!
Anon1 – I find the construction great, it’s goodyear welted. It’s hard to compare them, because they have a mixture between handgrade details (like a closed channel sole) but then mostly bench grade qualities. IF I had to I would say that they are in between a Cheaney and Crockett & Jones, but with much better last shapes (i.e. the curves on the lasts…less bulbous).
Anon2 – Yes, for now you can find me at Gieves & Hawkes at No.1 Savile Row.
