I have always appreciated the idea of the classic American nubuck derby but never found one I truly loved until Norman Vilalta put his artistic spin on one and came up with his new Esteban Summer Buck.
Something about those brick soles has always intrigued me, especially being a jean guy who loves that denim look with something smart up top with a unstructured jacket. And Norman’s latest creation hits that nail on the head with perfection on his latest release.
The shoe is currently a part of his latest GMTO series which is priced at €720, a €500 drop from an MTO price. The model is available for preorder until April 6th and I can only imagine the classic traditionalists will be all over this remake. Its subtle highlights on the brogueing make it a Buck like never seen before. Now if only I had a linen suit to complement I would be in business!

Hello Justin,
Thank you for informing about these shoes. I placed an order (my first at a GMTO) for a 7.5UK (I wear a 7.5UK in Carmina Rain and Crockett & Jones 348 lasts), so hopefully it will be ok. Thanks also for your very informative articles, which help a lot in understanding about good and sometimes really expensive shoes! For a person like me who did not know anything about welted shoes a few years ago, it was good to learn about such things and more, from someone who cut his teeth in the profession, and can share valuable insights.
Best,
Akhtar
