Many fashion/clothing companies around London have been doing a special Olympic tribute by creating some article of clothing (within their collection) donning the colors of the Union Jack. And while I am all for patriotism of one’s own country or being proud of where you come from and representing it, there has been a bit of overkill by certain companies and things created that would be good for one day of use, yet cost tons of money. On the other hand, some companies while still wanting to do something patriotic, decided to go down the more practical route and create special editions that would be limited yet still something that could be worn well after the end of the ceremonies. That brings us to these lovely beauties by Crockett & Jones, of which they did create for the Olympics, with limited stock, but did so in such an elegant manner. While I am not as crazy about the red chukka’s, not because I don’t like them but just because really, I am absolutely enamored with the other two, particularly the Beatle boots with white gore. Most of you know that I am a sucker for blue suede, but what I really like is the pairing of it with white, and that red Dainite sole to top it off…..It’s all very clever and done quite well. So if you are like me and fancy these models, you better hurry quick as they are limited stock that are only available at the London C&J stores. I am sure that they will ship them to you…..
Loafers and chukka’s: £310
Beatle boots: £340
Loving the loafers!
Allen Edmonds also have some Olympic specials, which are conveniently in the right colours if you are British or French too (and others).
But the patriotic thing to do is to by some 100% Northampton-made Crockett & Jones, who, as I understand it, still use more traditional techniques than any other major RTW maker. So I did. Not in these jarring shades, but a nice tan grain calf derby – the gentleman’s equivalent of an old pair of trainers, but oh-so-lovely.
To be fair, these are all OK, the loafers I think look better without the little coloured highlight in the “penny slot”, and I’m not big on chukkas and the like in general. And being C&J, they will be excellent shoes of course. Can’t help feeling that in three months’ time, one might wish one had bought solid navy blue, though. 😉
Owen B – me too….!
Alex B – you are too funny!
