CNES Shoemaker has updated their S Last which now has 4 variations: SQ (soft square), SP (soft point), SR (soft round), and SC (soft chisel). The SQ is the most popular in terms of what they chose to make their new models on. But as CNES Shoemaker offers the hand welted line as an MTO offering, you can customize the models by choosing your desired last. Let’s take a look at the models that are shown with each last.
The New CNES Shoemaker S Last

SQ – Soft Square
The SQ last is definitely the most prevalent among their sample styles. I wonder how this correlates to the orders, especially as the SQ and SC are quite similar, at least to my eye. I presume the chisel is more sharp, while the SQ offers a more rounded edge on the last’s toe shape.

SP – Soft Point
The SP last is definitely my favorite simply for the fact that I prefer a rounded toe. I love the look of the chisel, but for the shoes that I wear, I feel a rounded style suits my look better. And I love the highlighted model above as one of my favorite styles of theirs. The SP last is definitely one to try!

SR – Soft Round
The SR has the least amount of examples of it being used. I feel that is because it is quite a particularly shaped last that few designs will truly complement. But there is a market for that bulbous-shaped toe and one might be surprised how many people opt for it.

SC – Soft Chisel
The SC last is very refined and sharp. Rightfully so, as they used this last on some of the more intriguing designs in their new offering. I quite like all of them and feel that this might be the winner of the new S Last for ordering. Let’s see as people start to make their MTOs, which of the 4 they choose.

Stay tuned as I discuss more of the new CNES Shoemaker S last in my upcoming unboxing video. I will discuss how the new design fits, and feels and my personal opinion on it overall. Let’s just say it is positive and I think that they were smart in making it!
