Yeossal’s Spade sole offering is a newly appointed detail to their expansive MTO program. A few years back I wrote about their MTO program back when they had only 21 models and 6 lasts. Since then they have grown to 43 models, 8 lasts, 4 different heel heights and now offering a spade sole choice. It is impressive, to say the least, and actually quite different than other typical MTO programs.
It would appear that the Spade sole is growing in popularity as a lot of the newer shoes that Yeossal shows on Instagram are with a Spade sole finish. And the majority of the time, what they show is someone’s order. This old-world detail is coming back to modern dress shoes. Personally speaking, I am not crazy about Spade soles. I like them visually but not on my feet. But I love any detail that defines craftsmanship and quality. And to make a Spade sole takes skill and cannot be done by any old Joe-blow shoe brand. So, I appreciate it as a dedication to keeping dress shoes alive.
I am unsure if there are various levels of Yeossal’s Spade sole offering as most of what I see is quite subtle. A traditional Spade sole was, in fact, quite protruding and anything but subtle. So I am unsure if you can request various degrees of the points of the Spade detail but I like the subtle offering they have.
For those of you interested in the Spade detail, this will be a warm welcome to your ability in finding shoemakers that offer this option. You can now add one more to your list!
