My daily choice of style has fluctuated a lot since I first landed on Savile Row, way back in 2011. Of course, representing myself on that street, in the heart of London where a lot of classic menswear-style originated, I had to smarten myself up a bit from my previous self. During my time in London, I wore a lot of suits. It kind of goes with the territory of representing a dress shoe brand in this environment. But as time went on, my style became more semi-smart, think the style of the outfit above with the jeans and Drake’s coat. During my final years in London, this style was my go-to look. And since arriving to NYC, it has pretty much stayed that way, even sometimes going more casual by ditching the tie. In fact, since living in NYC, I think that I have worn a tie less than 10 times. That’s in nearly 4 years. And I love ties. I think I have around 80 of them, or so. But, I don’t know, something about living here just doesn’t sit with wearing a tie. Or maybe I have just been incredibly lazy. Probably a bit of both.
But after the last year, we have all had and it really affecting many of us mentally, I decided that I was going to make a conscious effort to try harder. And not try harder to look good or whatever, but try harder to bring me back to my old ‘self’ of dressing for success, so to speak. I do very much believe that how you dress and carry yourself plays a huge role in not only how you perceive yourself but naturally how others do too. I used to feel like a million bucks wearing bespoke suits, even though I was not rich by any means. But I was fortunate enough to have friends that made me them at cost price and in doing so, made me feel rich and put me into a different mindset. Then I moved to NYC, things got tough and I got lazy. But, I have left the hustle & bustle of NYC for the suburbs and now have more space, more time to choose wisely, and easier access to all of my wardrobe in one place.
While I will never give up my jeans and incorporating them into my dress-casual style, I do plan to get back to wearing my very nice collection of suits that have been collecting dust the last 4 years. Thankfully there were no moths in NYC!
I hope that all of you enjoy my outfits, take some inspiration from them and gain a bit of courage to wear bold shoes if you are not already doing so. Remember, all stylish men were stylish because of how they carried themselves, not necessarily because of them following any so-called style rules!
Wishing everyone a great weekend!
