The Lion by Caulaincourt is a breath of fresh air in the world of shoe design and is very on par with the ethos of the Parisian shoe brand, Caulaincourt. The balmoral line is often seen as a detail reserved for the oxford, but a true designer doesn’t let such ideas limit them from creating unique greatness. And such was the thought process when creating this new string loafer: The Lion.

The Lion by Caulaincourt has a very French-meets-Victorian style to it. Its old-world look, combined with the string detail and classic Victorian color combination, gives it a unique flair unlike others in its universe. Caulaincourt is not the first to use the balmoral line with brogueing on a loafer, but certainly put their stamp on it with subtle design changes that make this model uniquely theirs.

What I love about loafers is that they can transition from a slick suit to a pair of jeans and a polo. No other shoe can do that as seamlessly as the loafer can, and that is probably why I wear loafers more than anything else these days. Not that I am making that transition, to be honest, as my suit days are sadly behind me. They now only grace my presence on special occasions. I could easily see the Lion by Caulaincourt making that transition, without breaking a sweat!

Caulaincourt produces its shoes in several places around Europe, from France to the UK. The Lion model is from their Goodyear welted line. They are made in England and are priced at 545 Euros. If you are feeling bold, you can add a custom patina to the suede part of the model.
