The China Shoe Trunk Show was created by a well-known Chinese shoe blogger who was inspired by the Super Trunk Show that Jesper and I put on and created his own version of it in Shanghai, China. His first show was in 2021. It would appear that there was a break in 2022 and now his second show is coming up in a few weeks, specifically from June 22nd to the 24th, 2023. While I have been invited to attend them, sadly it has yet to work with my schedule, but hopefully, in 2024 (or whenever the next one is), I will be able to attend. I am very curious about this show and would love to see the shoes I know we won’t see outside of China.
While the event will take time to grow, it sure looks as if the amount of brands that participate is quite substantial. I might be reading the flyer wrong as it is in Chinese characters but I count what I believe are 23 brands that showcase. Which is quite impressive. The photos you see here are from the 2021 event and I am very intrigued to see things in these photos that we have not seen elsewhere, like the unique shoe in the highlighted photo by Oct Tenth as well as the display for Slim Shoes.
There is a rise of great shoemaking in China and with the world’s largest population, I can only imagine that this show will grow and so will the number of brands that attend, who will be churning out great footwear. And I love the fact that a country previously known for creating cheap, mass-market products has come onto the scene and has pushed quality to the highest level. Because all I care about is the fact that great, quality footwear is continuing on and for me, it doesn’t matter where it comes from. If China will help lead the world to better footwear, then I am all for it. We need a rise in great dress shoes and more men wearing them!
